Pediatric Dentistry Experts Recommend a Checkup by Your Child's First Birthday
Baby teeth require excellent care for healthy smiles later in life.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics all recommend that children attend their first dental visit by age one.
Many parents believe that baby teeth do not require as much care as permanent teeth, but healthy baby teeth can help your youngster maintain proper chewing, nutrition, speech development, and permanent teeth development.
During your first appointment at our Rowlett dental office, we will provide professional in-office treatment as well as key information about infant oral hygiene. We offer the tools you need to maintain healthy smiles at home. Our pediatric dentists strongly believe in the importance of patient (and parent) education and look forward to partnering with you to keep your little one's smile healthy and beautiful.

Michelle (front desk) and Dr Montoya are both absolutely incredible. My daughter always tells me "Michelle is the nicest lady ever" everytime she goes with me or has her own appointment. They have tablets and entertainment for the kiddos and a prize chest for good behavior. Dr Montoya is one of the most gentle with shots that I've experienced and is very thorough investigating a symptom before providing a solution. If you're in the area and looking for a dentist... Look no further.
View on GoogleMy son was born almost 3 weeks ago and we were told that he had tongue tie. Because of this he wasn’t able to feed correctly so we took him in to see Dr Ramsey for a tongue tie revision. They were able to correct his tongue tie within minutes and he latched the very next day! My husband and I are over the moon with our sons experience at My Kidz Mouth Dental and cannot thank the entire staff and especially Dr Ramsey enough! Thank you so much for changing our sons life, this will be the only dentist we ever take our son to see!

Dr. Ramsey is the friendly face your child will see when they come to My Kidz Mouth Dental for their appointments. Dr. Ramsey has worked with children her whole life. She was a babysitter and a camp counselor for children of all ages, so she knows how to speak to children and teens in a way that will make them feel comfortable. Additionally, she comes from a long line of teachers, so educating her patients and setting them up for a lifetime of good oral health is in her nature.
Dr. Ramsey aims to give her patients a good first impression of the dentist so they feel comfortable getting care for the rest of their lives. By providing a sense of safety and explaining dental procedures in a way children can understand, her patients look forward to their visits.
When your child is ready to transition to a general dentist, they can move to Dr. Montoya on the other side of our office, should they choose to remain patients of the practice. While Dr. Ramsey will be sad to see them go, she'll be happy knowing she can keep tabs on them. My Mouth Dental/My Kidz Mouth Dental is proud to offer a continuum of care to our Rowlett patients so you'll never have to find another dentist.
Do You Have Kids? Why You Should Choose Our Pediatric Dentist
Comprehensive Dentistry for All Ages
Drs. José Montoya and Ashley Ramsey can treat patients of all ages in a single office. Because we have two general dentists and a board-certified pediatric dentist on our team, we can meet the needs of every member of your family without referring you to an outside doctor.
Board-Certified Specialist
While other dentists may offer dentistry for children, not all dentists possess the additional training offered by our team. Dr. Ramsey is a board-certified pediatric dentist. In addition to her regular dental school training, she has passed rigorous tests to obtain board certification in the field of pediatric dentistry.
Advanced Dental Technology
Our pediatric dentistry practice uses advanced technology to make care more efficient and comfortable for young patients. During your child's appointment, we may use digital radiographs or our cone beam scanner to thoroughly diagnose oral health issues, or our dental laser to carefully treat the teeth and gums with minimal discomfort.
Child-Friendly Office
We want kids to get excited about their visits, so we make our Rowlett office a fun place to be. With an operatory dedicated to kids, a space theme painted on the wall, and TVs and iPads available, we help keep your child entertained and happy throughout treatment. We also have a prize drawer for after your child's appointment.

Common Pediatric Dental Services
Cleanings and Exams
Just like adults, children should visit the dentist every six months starting when their first tooth erupts or before their first birthday. Routine cleanings and exams can maintain the health of your child's mouth and allow us to detect minor problems before they become more serious.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Our Rowlett team offers white fillings made of composite resin. Unlike metal fillings, white fillings blend in seamlessly with the surrounding teeth. If we cannot complete the treatment for any reason, we might recommend silver diamine fluoride, a material that works to arrest dental decay, until we can place a restoration.
Stainless Steel Crowns
For children who have extensive fractures or tooth decay that cannot be managed with a white filling, we offer stainless steel crowns and stainless steel crowns with white coverings. These durable restorations allow children to bite and chew again without experiencing pain or tooth sensitivity.
Orthodontics
Crooked teeth should be treated sooner rather than later. Even a mild case of malocclusion can have negative effects on your oral health in adulthood. Our pediatric dentistry team can provide orthodontic space maintainers, braces, or FASTBRACES® for children who need efficient orthodontic treatment.
Endodontics
Cavities affect more than just the teeth. The oral bacteria that cause decay can also infect the pulp located within a tooth, resulting in a root canal infection. Our Rowlett doctors can perform pulpotomies (root canals for young children) using advanced materials such as mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA).
Frenectomies
During a frenectomy, one of our doctors can remove overgrown soft tissue within the mouth. This procedure can help children with their speech and eating habits, or babies who are having trouble nursing. When possible, we use lasers rather than scalpels to reduce anxiety and minimize infection risk.
Patients of All Ages Benefit From Our Care
If I could give a rating higher than 5, I would. From the front desk, the assistants of both Dr. Ramsey and Dr. Montoya, the doctors, the explanation of the treatment plan and the flexibility are exceptional. My children have been treated kindly and that means a lot to me.
View on GoogleI moved over an hour away and still come back here with all my kiddos. Dr. Ramsay is amazing with the kids and she explains everything to me regarding their teeth. Dr. Montoya is also amazing and did go above and beyond during the winter storms with seeing me when I had tooth pain. We love this place so much.

We understand that many kids are afraid of going to the dentist, especially very young children. To help young patients feel at ease and build a positive association with dentistry, we maintain a calm, child-friendly atmosphere. We also help young patients understand procedures, so they aren't so scary anymore. No matter how young, we treat every visitor the way we would treat one of our own family members.
We Proudly Offer Pediatric Sedation Helping Kids Feel Relaxed During Their Visit
Explaining dental treatments in a child-friendly way usually helps kids relax. If a child still feels uneasy about sitting in the dentist's chair, we have other safe methods for overcoming anxiety.
Our Rowlett, TX, pediatric dental practice offers sedation dentistry to make each visit more comfortable. We have nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral medications, or intravenous (IV) sedation. Our dentists can help you choose a method of sedation that meets your child's unique needs, helping them feel comfortable in the moment while decreasing their anxiety about future appointments.
We closely monitor children when using sedation techniques to ensure their absolute safety.

Avoid Sugary Drinks Before Bedtime
Sending your child to bed with a bottle of milk or juice may get them to settle down quickly, but the sugar in these drinks will sit in your child's mouth all night, making it a breeding ground for bacteria and leading to eventual tooth decay. After brushing your child's teeth, avoid letting them drink any beverages other than water before bedtime.
Eat Tooth-Friendly Foods
Certain foods can be better or worse for your child's oral health. Often, kids receive a large amount of sugar from consuming too many juices and not enough water. Try to cut down on the amount of sugar your child consumes and give them foods and drinks with tooth-friendly nutrients, such as calcium, vitamin D, potassium, and iron. Apples, carrots, celery, nuts, yogurt, and cheese are good choices.
Make Brushing Fun
It can be tedious to brush your teeth for two minutes twice a day as an adult, let alone as a child. Make brushing fun by playing your child’s favorite song for two minutes or incorporate a physical timer, such as a sand hourglass, so your child can see how much longer they have to brush.
From Childhood to Adulthood Our Dentists Are Here for You

The advantage of a family dental care practice like ours is that young patients can transition from Dr. Ramsey to her husband, Dr. Montoya, who treats adult patients. This allows our Rowlett, TX, practice to maintain a continuity of care for your dental health at every stage of your life.
