Background and Education WHY DENTAL WORK IS SO IMPORTANT TO DR. MONTOYA
Dr. José Montoya was born in Nicaragua but moved to Florida in the 1980s with his family. As he grew up, Dr. Montoya would watch his father, a medical doctor, take care of patients. This helped Dr. Montoya recognize his own love for the health sciences.
Inspired to help people like his father did, Dr. Montoya received a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Southern Adventist University. He then continued his education by attending the University of Tennessee in Memphis to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Montoya had plans to return to his family in Florida after completing his training but met Dr. Ashley Ramsey and quickly changed his mind.
After graduating from dental school, Dr. Montoya worked steadily to perfect his hand skills while Dr. Ramsey completed her training. Drs. Montoya and Ramsey relocated to Dallas in 2009 but were drawn to Rowlett by family and the warmth of the community. They decided to open My Mouth Dental, named for the way Dr. Montoya likes to practice dentistry — as if he were working in his own mouth.
Areas of Interest and Professional Affiliations
While Dr. Montoya enjoys all areas of dentistry, he looks forward to the reactions he receives from patients after completing life-changing procedures like cosmetic and implant dentistry.
Because he enjoys putting smiles on all of his patients' faces, he is dedicated to continued education. Dr. Montoya recently completed a six-month implant preceptorship at the University of Texas at San Antonio to ensure he can provide his patients with the latest techniques and best possible care. He has also continued his orthodontics training in the FASTBRACES® system — an orthodontic program specifically designed for adults with all permanent teeth and minor alignment problems.

A Dentist and Family Man
In his spare time, Dr. Montoya enjoys spending time with loved ones, exercising, looking at cars, and trying new and interesting restaurants. Together, Drs. Montoya and Ramsey are raising their children, Elizabeth "Ellie" Montoya, born in 2014, and Calero "Cal" Montoya, born in 2016, in the hopes that one day they will also be interested in a career in dentistry.

Dr. Montoya is amazing. Very honest and gentle with our mouths. Me and my children have been coming here for years. We will not go anywhere else. The office staff is awesome too. Great place for the whole family.
